Voorschoten - This year about 400 people attended this prestigious and historic event, Men, women, children, veterans, etc. an impressive crowd. The Honourable Mayor of Voorschoten, Mr. Staasten opened on the 4th of May the ceremony with the itinerary of the evening's proceedings, even though his voice was failing, he handled it galantly by asking Councillor Inge Nieuwenhuizen to deliver his 6 min. speech, which was impressively read.

The wreath laying ceremony took place at The Monument next to the Town Hall. Pupils from the Primary School "DE VOS" Lynouk van Veen and Nina Meeuwisse read their own version of poems, this was read with powerful tone and dynamic words, which was followed by a huge applaus for their respective renditions. Brave girls.

The Last Post sounded and as usual this is a powerful and heart wrenching moment. There was 2 minute silence. This event was impressive, the weather was glorious, the mood dismal,
yet magical, I saw sadness, tears, deep silence, reflection, everyone was touched. We must not forget!

Mr. Eelco de Ridder and Danique Standhart laid a beautiful wreath by The Monument,  on behalf primary school De Vos, Sam Bleijenberg and Roos Laurense laid their wreath. What an impressive moment that must have been for them.

Profuse thanks and gratitude are extended to group 7 and 8 of Primary School De Vos who bravely adopted The Monument this year, this task will be executed meticulously by them.

After the ceremony a group of people proceeded to the Kruispunt Church where there was music organised by Stichting MusiCultura Voorschoten. Larissa Groeneveld and Frank van de Laar supplied us with the most heavenly sounds of their musical performances. Their music was magical, melodious and energising.
